Situated in the heart of the city, the 600 hectare (6 square km) ancient reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife. Native plant life, an abundance of pure spring water, and free-ranging wildlife including giraffes, ostriches, wildebeest, sable, and zebras may all be found in the reserve. It’s a great place for locals and tourists to go for outdoor activities because of the wetlands, wildlife in their natural habitat, and beautiful scenery and vegetation. E-Biking in Groenkloof Nature Reserve is a popular activity. Since there are no predators in the reserve, it is a safe location to explore on an e-bike or on foot.
e-Bike with Wild Game
On February 25 1895, former president Paul Kruger declared the Groenkloof Nature Reserve – which is situated next to the Fountains Valley at the southern entrance to Pretoria – a game sanctuary. It is Africa’s first game sanctuary, and is under the Department of Nature Conservation’s management. The National Heritage Monument is located within the reserve. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, game drives, and a 4×4 route, are among the activities available in the reserve. Guided E-Biking in Groenkloof Nature Reserve is a thrilling experience, and roads and trails within the reserve are used – public roads are avoided where possible.
Groenkloof Nature Reserve is the oldest game reserve in Africa – established in 1895 – and is located in the heart of Pretoria, making it easily accessible for locals and visitors. The reserve is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and picnicking, with stunning views of the city of Pretoria, making it a great spot for photography enthusiasts. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including zebra, giraffe, blue wildebeest, impala, kudu, ostrich, and various bird species. The reserve is also known for its unique geological features, including rocky outcrops and caves. Groenkloof provides a tranquil setting for nature enthusiasts to relax and unwind, offering guided game drives and walking safaris to give visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with the wildlife. The reserve is dedicated to the conservation of native flora and fauna, and plays an important role in protecting and preserving the natural heritage of the region.
